Kogi Rifle Attack: Government and Police Vow to Rescue Kidnapped Expats and Others

The Kogi State Government and State Police Command have pledged to ensure that abducted expatriates and others taken in an attack on West Africa Ceramics Company Ajaokuta Friday be rescued.

The state government, in a statement signed by State Information and Communications Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo and made available to Tribune Online, said the security had been tightened in all parts of the state.

State Police Commissioner Edward Egbuka attended the scene of the attack and promised to rescue all those abducted.

He said, "As a government responsible to the people, we would like to make the following statements regarding the breach of security in Ajaokuta Local Government Area and efforts to retain the confidence of our people in protecting them

“As we activate the dynamism of our security architecture and strategy, we recognize that some cowards will sometimes try to undermine our efforts. What we have always done in such circumstances is to pursue the criminals, apprehend them and bring them to justice."

The governor's spokesperson also added that "immediately the unfortunate report was brought to the attention of the state government, our administration extended our safety net by working with the agencies conventional security forces and local vigilante groups to ensure the abducted children are saved alive and the cowards who abducted them are brought to justice.

The Kogi government has pointed out that "as we would not like to disclose everything about the ongoing operations to save the children unharmed which we know will be carried out very soon, we wish to assure the Kogi residents that the government will remain vigilant in protecting the population. We will continue to work with security agencies to maintain our enviable position as the safest state in the country today.

“Furthermore, the attack on a ceramics company in Ajaokuta last night was unfortunate and condemnable. Police and other security agencies are currently combing the area to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act. Investigations are still in their infancy. We will build on these reports when they are clearer and ready to inform the public."

The government assured that "We urge the people of Ajaokuta and indeed Kogi State in general to go about their normal business as we have put in place , strict security measures to keep everyone safe. The government will spare no resources to ensure that our beloved children are saved alive and unharmed.

“The Governor is personally coordinating rescue efforts in conjunction with state security chiefs as well as local vigilantes. There is already a massive deployment in the region to get results. »
