Labor Party rejects alleged arrest of Abure, blames Apapa faction

The Labor Party (LP) has rejected a video of the alleged arrest of its National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure.

Management said the video was released by "former renegade members" led by Lamidi Apapa, a former interim president.

A statement on Friday from National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh said the clip was posted by a former youth leader, Anselem Eragbe.

It showed policemen arguing with each other over an issue, but neither Abure nor any party leaders appeared.

Ifoh informed the public that the security agencies had no reason to seek the arrest of the LP chairman.

If they need his attention, they will do so through his security information or send an invite, the spokesperson noted.

Ifoh said Abure attended today's hearing at the Presidential Election Tribunal and witnessed official engagements.

"We call on Nigerians to disregard yet another attempt by these renegades to smear the character of our distinguished President.

"Nigerians must now be aware of the ability of the Apapa Group to misinform and spread false news," the statement added.
