Lagos-Ibadan traffic: Motorcyclists, motorists in one-way compound traffic jam

Commercial motorcyclists, motorists and commercial drivers driving against the tide on Sunday worsened the traffic jam on the Lagos-Ibadan highway, with both sides of the road blocked.

PUNCH Metro observed as Okada drivers, in particular, drove from the end of the Magboro Highway in Ogun State to 'in Berger, Lagos State.

Our correspondents also saw police and army trucks attempting to head towards Lagos one way.

Security officers' vehicles were closely followed by commercial buses.

Our reporters noted that all that happened as Federal Road Safety Corps men stationed in Warewa struggled to deal with the chaotic situation.

Three lanes of the highway to Ogun State were blocked by vehicles trying to take a one-way direction, driving traffic towards the Longbridge.

The Lagos-Ibadan highway has been under reconstruction for some years, with the Sagamu-Lagos section of the road being contracted out to Julius Berger Nigeria.

The construction works are at the OPIC/Kara end of the highway to Lagos State.

The company reduced this section to two lanes from its four-lane design, which created traffic on the road.

The situation has caused difficulties for commuters using the highway.

Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps spokesman Babatunde Akinbiyi blamed the Sunday traffic jam on drivers' impatience.

He said his men were monitoring the situation, however.

Akinbiyi said, "Anyone we catch violating traffic laws, especially regarding driving in the prohibited direction, will be apprehended and fined." We can also confiscate their vehicles and Okada. »
