Lampard insists Everton starlet Gordon is 'not going anywhere' amid £35m move talks to Newcastle

Everton boss Frank Lampard is adamant that Anthony Gordon is 'going nowhere' this summer amid reports linking him with a move to Newcastle United.

The Toffees struggled last season as they finished 16th in the Premier League. They ensured their safety with a game to play.

Gordon was one of their standout players during his breakthrough season for his boyhood club. He has four goals and two assists in 35 league appearances.

The winger has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United this summer.

It has been suggested that the Magpies are willing to pay £35m for Gordon and that he would be open to the move.

Lampard wants to 'move on' with Gordon so he doesn't leave Everton anytime soon:

"He's a connection to the crowd, a connection to the fans," Lampard said (quotes via The Independent).

"He's not going anywhere and that's a hugely important thing for me. He's the kind of player we want to build and move forward with."

Gordon becoming Everton's new number ten, Lampard added: "He worked for it. You have to win number 10. There's this desire for numbers.

"I was lucky, I fell into No. 8 [at Chelsea]. I understand him, especially the 10, he has this magic, the flair, and he has it, especially in his own style. He absolutely deserves it."

Everton signed James Tarkowski from Burnley on a free transfer earlier this summer. Lampard is confident he will be a "great player" for them:

"He's a player I've admired for a long time, since before I worked at Everton. He has a proven track record of quality and durability in the Premier League.

"When you look at his numbers at Burnley, a lot of them were based on a strong desire not to be beaten.

"He has a great physique, he's great in both boxes and very good with the ball. I'm glad we did it quickly.

"I'm sure he's going to be a great player and Evertonians will love him. He's a leader, I saw him straight away and we need leaders."
