Liam Payne apparently teased a fight with Tommy Fury and sent the internet into a frenzy

The evening of April 12 was pretty wild on social media, as both Liam Payne and Tommy Fury added posters showing them face-to-face on their Instagram feeds. The mockup design looked a lot like posters advertising big boxing fights, as the One Direction singer's profile faced the former 'Love Island' star with the words 'Old Trafford' and 'This Summer' in between. them.

Understandably, the internet crashed, assuming a massive celebrity boxing match was in the cards. The idea wasn't beyond the realm of possibility either, given that Fury recently beat American YouTuber Jake Paul in the ring just days after becoming a dad - he even dedicated his victory to baby Bambi and to his girlfriend, Molly-Mae. But fans weren't impressed with Payne's career move.

“Liam Payne announcing a fight with Tommy Fury was not how I expected this round of one sided reunion rumors to be shut down,” one tweeted. Another commented, "Liam Payne Ily but I don't think this fight with Tommy Fury ends well." Others took to Twitter to question the cryptic poster, asking if it was actually teasing that Payne would be performing in an upcoming Fury match. "Wait, fight or duo???" said another, speculating if the duo would collaborate on a song, which would have been quite a surprise.
