Man Utd replace de Gea with Inter's Onana for £47.2m

July 21 - Manchester United have completed the £47.2million signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

United have signed the Cameroon international on a five-year contract with an option for a further year.

United were in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper after David De Gea's contract expired in June, ending his 12-season tenure at the club.

Onana played under United manager Erik ten Hag during a seven-and-a-half-year spell with Ajax, winning three league titles, and served a nine-month ban in 2021 for a doping violation.

"Manchester United have a long history of amazing goalkeepers, and I will now give it my all to create my own legacy in the years to come," Onana said in a statement after saying goodbye to Inter fans earlier on Thursday.

“I fell in love with San Siro, the Curva and the city. Now the circumstances are right for me to start a new journey in Manchester.”

"Joining Manchester United is an incredible honour. I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way."
