Meet Sikiru Alagbada, the first African in Netflix's 'Love Is Blind'

Fans of the popular Netflix reality series 'Love is Blind' are raving about Sikiru Alagbada, a Nigerian who made history as the series' first African.

SK, as he is known, is a data engineer who appears in the show's third season.

He holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business, Berkeley, California.

The love-themed series, which debuted in February 2020, is in its third season.

In the show, 30 singles spend ten days in "pods", where they interview potential romantic partners behind a wall that separates them.

Couples who agree to become engaged during the experience leave the modules to see each other for the first time.

In an interview with The Newsroom of his school in October, SK revealed that he left Nigeria as an international exchange student to study in Poland. He also stated that he is fluent in Polish and three other languages.

"I lived all over Europe for a few years before moving alone to the United States 13 years ago, and settling in Texas, where I attended Baylor University as a undergraduate. My brothers and my mother are in the United States now,” he said.

Journey to Glory

The 34-year-old confirmed he hadn't watched the show before he was cast, but knew about it because his mum loved him and he agreed to it try because of her.

He said, "I was at a point in my life where I wanted to settle down. I didn't want to hear my mom's constant reminder about marriage anymore."

SK met his partner, Raven Ross, a Pilates instructor in the show. Although Raven initially fell in love with Bartie, she eventually returned to Sk because she believed she shared the same morals with him.

He also told her about his father's polygamous lifestyle in Nigeria and later proposed to her after his patience impressed him.

The show, currently in production for the fourth season, is rated just above average, with 6.1 on IMDB, 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 62% on meta review.

The series is mostly watched by women because of the social experiment the participants conduct in an effort to find love and settle down.

Although the third season is currently the fourth most-watched series in the Netflix's top 10 with 47 million plays worldwide, it attracted African audiences, especially Nigerians.
