Can Tom Cruise save the summer?

Despite the onslaught of brilliant products that did not deliver, that is, say Flash and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate, Comscore's $2.1 billion summer domestic box office lags 6% from compared to last year for the period from May 1 to July 9.

All eyes are on the best Mission: Impossible ever time, from Paramount/Skydance to hopefully put us on a July streak starting Wednesday with an expected 5-day world franchise record of $250 million; consisting of $90 million domestic and $160 million overseas in 70 markets, including Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

There's great upside potential here, not just because of the 98% Rotten Tomatoes score certified fresh, but also because a Top Gun: Maverick halo effect should work in favor of the seventh Mission: Impossible. Yes, Mission: Impossible< /em>em> is largely aimed at older guys, with the latest Fallout chapter having 58% of guys and 25% of audiences over 45. However, Top Gun: Maverick ended up playing beyond its opening weekend demos by 45% over 45 and 58% to a diverse, younger audience. Rumor has it that during Dead Reckoning testing, for some customers under the age of 25, it was the first time seeing a Mission movie, the series who is now 27 years old.

Dead Reckoning is Cruise's fourth film starring Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie , and the star's third Mission with the director following Rogue Nation in 2015 and Fallout in 2018.

US previews begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday night with 4,300 locations by Wednesday. Many cinemas have discount Tuesdays, but remember there's an extra charge for Imax and PLF, the main way to see this mega car and train chase spectacle. Already we're hearing that Dead Reckoning pre-sales are well ahead of the old Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny at the same time. The reported budget for this mission is $291 million net, the Covid-challenged photo starts and ends in Italy.
