Allah the Almighty declares in the Holy Quran, Al-Israa 17:1: "Glory be to (God) who took His servant for a night journey from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, from which We blessed the enclosure,—that We might show him some of Our signs, for it is He who hears and sees (all things).”

The true account of the miraculous bodily journey which is devoid of a dream or trance story is given in Sahih Bukhari, in the Authentic Hadith Book of Salat, narrated by Abu Dhar. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was transported to the seat of the first revelations in Jerusalem, then taken through the seven heavens, and even to the Sublime Throne, and initiated into the spiritual mysteries of the human soul struggling in space and the weather.

As narrated by Abbas bin Malik, Malik bin Sasaa said "Allah's Apostle described to them his night journey, saying: 'While I was lying in Al-Hatim or Al-Hijr, at Suddenly, someone came to me and opened my body. From here to here.' I asked Al-Jarud who was next to me: 'What does he mean? The Prophet added, "He then ripped out my heart. Then a gold tray of Belief was brought to me and my heart was washed and filled (with Belief) and then returned to its original place." Then a white animal which was smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me." (Thereupon Al-Jarud asked, 'Was it the Buraq, O Abu Hamza?' (i.e. Anas) answered in the affirmative.) The Prophet said, "The animal's step (was so wide that it) reached the farthest point within sight of the animal. I was carried there, and Gabriel went with me until we reached the nearest heaven. When he asked that the po rte is open, he was asked: “Who is it? Gabriel replied, "Gabriel." He was asked: "Who is accompanying you?" Gabriel replied, "Muhammad." He was asked, "Has Muhammad been called?" Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcome. What a great visit!’ The door opened, and when I walked through the first heaven, I saw Adam there. Gabriel said (to me). “Here is your father, Adam; present your greetings to him”. So, I greeted him and he returned the greeting and said, "You are welcome, O pious son and pious Prophet". So Gabriel rode with me until we reached the second heaven. Gabriel asked for the door to be opened. He was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel replied, 'Gabriel'. We asked: 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel answered: 'Muhammad'. He was asked, "Has he been called?" Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, 'He is welcome. What an excellent visit! " The door opened. When I went to the second heaven, there I saw Yahya (meaning John) and 'Isa (meaning Jesus) who were cousins to each other. Gabriel said (to me), ‘These are John and Jesus; give them your regards”. So I greeted them and both of them returned my greetings and said: "You are welcome, O pious brother and pious Prophet". So Gabriel ascended with me to the third heaven and asked for his door to be opened. He was asked, “Who is it? Gabriel replied, "Gabriel." He was asked: "Who is accompanying you?" Gabriel replied, "Muhammad." He was asked, "Has he been called?" Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then they say: ‘He is welcome, what an excellent visit!’ The door opened, and when I had crossed the third heaven, I saw Joseph there. Gabriel said (to me), ‘This is Joseph; present your greetings to him”. So I greeted him and he returned the greeting and said, "You are welcome, O pious brother and pious Prophet". So Gabriel ascended with me to the fourth heaven and asked for his door to be opened. He was asked, “Who is it? Gabriel replied, "Gabriel." He was asked, 'Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel replied, 'Muhammad.' They were asked, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel replied in the affirmative. Then it was said, ‘He is welcome, what an excellent visit!’ The door opened, and when I passed through the fourth heaven, I saw Idris there. Gabriel (said to me): "It's Idris; Say hello to him." So I saluted him and he returned the salutation and said, "You are welcome, O pious brother and pious Prophet." So Gabriel ascended with me to the fifth heaven and asked that his door be opened. . It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel answered, 'Gabriel.' It was asked. ‘Who is accompanying you?’ Gabriel replied, ‘Muhammad.’ He was asked, ‘Has he been called?’ Gabriel replied in the affirmative.
