Muslim-Muslim ticket: What would Tinubu have done if he had been religious - Group

The campaign organization of Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the controversy surrounding the same sectarian ruling party ticket.

The group, Tinubu Campaign Organization (TCO), said Tinubu's choice of Kashim Shettima was for the good of all Nigerians.

Recall that Tinubu, a Muslim from the south, had announced Shettima, a former governor of Borno State who is also a Muslim, as his running mate.

The development had drawn a backlash from worried Nigerians, especially Christians and other southerners.

Reacting, TCO, in a statement from its Director of Media and Communications, Bayo Onanuga said the decision had nothing to do with religion or ethnicity.

According to the group, if the national leader of the APC was religiously minded, he would not have sought a running mate in Borno State.

Part of the statement reads: "If Asiwaju intended to take advantage of ethnicity, he would have chosen a running mate from North West Nigeria, which has the largest number of voters registered.

“If he wanted to appeal to the baser instincts of religion, he would also have opted for a candidate in the predominantly Christian parts of Nigeria.”
