A group within the All Progressive Congress under the auspices of the Tinubu Mandate Group, Ondo and Ekiti State chapters said there was nothing wrong with the party's presidential candidate , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, chose a Muslim as his running mate.

Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, has announced a former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election, amid criticism in some quarters.< /p>

Speaking on the development, the group's coordinator, Pastor Olufemi Bakare, who spoke to our correspondent during the group's meeting in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday, said that the APC presidential candidate would always be fair to all religions in the country.

He described Tinubu as a man who has Christians around him and showed love for Christianity, saying he (Tinubu) was never a fanatic of the religion, even though he is a muslim.

Bakare said, "I absolutely trust him. Let me tell you one thing, this man is a Muslim, his wife is a pastor and I want to tell you sincerely and honestly, me and my wife were ordained pastors the same day. So it's not a question of religion.

"When someone sits on top of a palm tree, he has a better horizon. The choice he made, I believe in it. I come from a Muslim family.

"My older brother is an Alhaji and I am a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. So if you have a Muslim man whose wife is a pastor, I believe that any decision a president would make will be with fear of God."

He explained that the essence of their meeting was to review their agenda and plans to mobilize support for the APC National Chief, in nooks and crannies of Ondo and Ekiti States.

"We have to be at the grassroots to attract a lot of people. Like so many people like him (Tinubu) in other parties, PDP, ADC, everywhere, they come because they know he is a salable candidate .

"He is a man who has a model, he is a man who has already done it, he is a man who has a reputation, he is a man who can create wealth. , he is a man who has transformed the fortunes of Lagos State for good.

"He has taken Lagos State from a slum position to one where it is now competing to be Africa's economic leader. That's why I trust him and know him as a friend. He has been my friend for 45 years and he has never failed,” he said.
