NASENI partners with a Chinese company to boost the electricity sector

The National Agency for Science and Technology Infrastructure has partnered with China Great Wall Industry Corporation to establish a transformer production plant in Nigeria to ensure industrialization through economic diversification.

In a statement, NASENI Deputy Director of Information, Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, said the two organizations will conduct the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony for the project in September.

According to the statement, Executive Vice President/General Manager of NASENI, Professor Mohammed Haruna, said the agreement was signed in 2013 between the Federal Government and the People's Republic of China, but could not take off due to some technical details.

He revealed that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired) gave a new directive regarding the three projects which he said are to start in September.

Ayeoyenikan revealed that more than 50% of the 15% matching fund to be paid by the federal government for the establishment of a transformer factory in Nigeria has been met, and the works of inauguration and laying of the foundations the ceremony of the project would be made by the President in September 2022.

He said, "This series of visits by the Chinese technical partner to Nigeria was aimed at ensuring that all the final touches for the start of the construction works of the projects are completed for an effective start in September. .

“For a country to provide permanent solutions to the power supply problem, it must have its own high voltage testing laboratory, which this project is expected to accomplish for Nigeria . NASENI had already trained about 60 engineers since 2019 in these areas to ensure that when the plant does indeed take off, it will be the best and will be run by trained Nigerian engineers and scientists. »

In the statement, Head of Delegation and Chairman, Chinese Liaoning Huaye Group Development Ltd, Anshan, Ma Liming said Nigeria and China have a long-standing relationship which has led to the signing of the agreement on the construction of the first transformer manufacturing plant in Nigeria.
