Nations League campaign 'not a shipwreck' for France ahead of Qatar 2022, says Deschamps

France boss Didier Deschamps has insisted his side are far from 'a shipwreck' after losing 2-0 to Denmark in their last game before heading to Qatar 2022 .

The Blues will head into their World Cup trophy defense in November after a poor Nations League campaign saw them limp to third place in Group A1.

Three defeats in competitive matches since March means that France have already equaled their worst record in this regard in a calendar year.

France's second defeat against the Danes in 2022, before a Group D battle between Qatar's sides, set off alarm bells among fans.

Deschamps, who guided the team to glory at Russia 2018, pushed back against suggestions that his side were in crisis, highlighting both his decision to field a younger squad and comparing the form of the France to other big rivals battling for results.

"I don't think it's a shipwreck," he told TF1. “We had a lot of chances. We were weak, we made mistakes playing from the back.

"It's a young French team, which for the most part does not have experienced players at the highest level. It's not a question of systems.

"We don't have to worry. The return of players with international experience will do us good. There's nothing to worry about. It's difficult for everyone.

"Yesterday I was watching other games. There are also other great teams losing. We shouldn't consider ourselves better than them. We'll have to fight."

Deschamps added, "I'm not going to overshadow the situation any further. It's a reminder of what lies ahead in two months."

Kylian Mbappe struggled at times against Denmark and appeared to be nursing a minor knock at one point, but Deschamps was quick to assure he didn't care for the Paris Saint-Germain striker's play .

"Kylian did a lot of good things. He is also one of the few players to have played 90 minutes twice in three days," Deschamps said.

"He can't do everything. He was more decisive three days ago, yes, but like the whole team, I'm not worried about Kylian."
