NDLEA arrests pastor with three barrels of hard drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a cross-border drug trafficker, Anietie Effiong, with three drums of crystal meth, locally called Mkpuru Mmiri, believed to have been imported from India.

The arrested man is said to be a pastor.

NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed this in a statement Sunday in Abuja.

Mr. Babafemi said the consignment, which weighed 90 kilograms, was loaded onto a commercial bus registered RSH 691XC at Ojuelegba in Lagos.

He said the shipment was intercepted during a stop and search operation along the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene highway on Saturday August 6.

He added that the dangerous drug, packaged at 30kg in each drum, was for the pastor, Mr Effiong, who was arrested during a follow-up operation at Oron beach in Oron, Australia. State of Akwa Ibom.

He also added that the methamphetamine drums recovered were intended for delivery to the Republic of Cameroon.

"This follows four seizures of the same illicit substance weighing 4.074kg bound for Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

"This also comes with a 3kg cannabis sativa to Dubai, UAE at select courier companies in Lagos.

"The shipments were concealed in body cream, hot iron and beads," he said.

The NDLEA Spokesperson quoted NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa who praised the officers and men of Akwa Ibom Command for their recent achievements.
