Neuer and Goretzka out of Germany squad with COVID-19

Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have been dropped from the Germany squad ahead of their next two Nations League matches.

The Bayern Munich duo tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and have since been isolated and moved out of the team hotel.

The German Football Federation (DFB) said: "Due to a positive coronavirus test in one of the players' private circles, the medical team carried out a rapid antigen test on the entire national team.

"All coaching staff and team members are required to test negative before travelling. Confirmed contact of both players will be tested daily."

Germany play Hungary on Friday and England on Monday, and coach Hansi Flick will no doubt feel the pressure of missing out on such vital players from his side.

Goalkeeper and captain Neuer has been replaced by Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann, with Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp counted among Flick's other options in goal.

The DFB has yet to confirm the identity of any additions in place of Goretzka, although Flick still has the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan and Thomas Muller at its disposal.
