Nick Kyrgios wants US Open 'to end' so he can 'go home' despite Aussie's Wimbledon run

Nick Kyrgios said he was looking forward to the end of the US Open so he could return home to Australia. The world No. 26 has had a successful summer season, including reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the Citi Open. However, he is now keen to return home to visit his sick mother after four months on tour.

Kyrgios returned to form in style this summer after a few staggered seasons. His run to the Wimbledon final was his best showing at a Grand Slam, despite entering the tournament as an unranked entrant. He finally succumbed to Novak Djokovic in the showpiece final in four sets

He followed that up with solid performances on the US tour. He won the Citi Open before defeating world number one Daniil Medvedev en route to the Canadian Open quarter-finals. He has since returned to the top 32 players in the world and will be ranked 23rd in New York.

Despite that, it looks like the Aussie doesn't have the same enthusiasm for the American major as he does for the grass courts of SW19. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Kyrgios said he was looking forward to the end of the competition.

"A big part of me just wants the US Open to be over so I can go home. It's just another tennis match for me. Whether I win or lose, it will always be the same for me: I have to go home, it's a win-win. For me, if I win, it's more money and another great result. And if I lose, I can go back to the House."

Kyrgios is widely known to have a very close relationship with his family, especially his sick mother. The family is based in Canberra, Australia's capital, and he can't wait to see them again after four months on the road.

"It's brutal not being able to have the normality of your own bed or your own family for so long and then you have to deal with all of this," he said. "The media, the fans, the training, the games, the pressure, especially on my spectrum as well - that's not normal.

"So it's tough. It's really tough so I definitely feel very exhausted. Right after Wimbledon, I didn't even have time to enjoy it.
