Nigerian lecturer at Ugandan university sacked over trademark sex scandal

Head of Department of Economics and Statistics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Kabale University, Western Region Uganda, Dr. Nafiu Lukman Abiodun, was sacked after have been found guilty of sexual harassment.

Abiodun, a Nigerian who is also director of research at the university, was banned mid-year to pave the way for investigations into complaints that he demanded sex from female exchange students notes.

It has been gathered that Abiodun gave retakes to female students who refuse to cooperate with him.

Abiodun, however, got lucky when some of the female students recorded him asking for sex on the phone.

According to a November 11 letter sent to him by the institution's secretary, Canon Johnson Munono Byaryant.3uma, the inquest found him guilty of sexual harassment, non-compliance with examination rules and vocational guidance.

“I regret to inform you that the Kabale University Appointments Board under Min.598160/AB/21122 found you guilty of sexual harassment, failure to comply with examination regulations and professional negligence, so the board has ordered that you be severely reprimanded and your ban lifted,” the letter read.

“The board has further decided not to renew your contract as a lecturer in statistics when it expires on November 11, 2022. You are therefore required to return all academic property in your possession to the Dean of the Faculty of Statistics. 'economics and management Science in the presence of the financial auditor,' he added.

Kabale University Chancellor Joy Constance Kwesiga confirmed the development when contacted on Sunday, November 13, but declined to divulge details, saying the institution had information that Dr. Abiodun could go to court.

Contacted for his reaction, Dr. Abioudun affirmed that he had not yet received the letter terminating his services.

He denied the charges against him but declined to discuss specifics.
