Niger/Kogi Customs Command Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N165 Million

The Niger-Kogi Zone Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, revealed that it had seized contraband goods worth over N165 million and pledged to his domain a zone forbidden to smugglers.

Customs area controller Busayo Kadejo said this while presenting the seized items to reporters in Minna.

Kadejo said the items seized include 15 vehicles of various brands worth over N145 million, 60 pharmaceuticals, four bales of second-hand clothes and 14,640 pieces of imported soap.

The others are 2,070 pieces of machetes, 32,850 canned sardines and 1,790 pieces of knives, among others.

He also disclosed that from November to date, the Niger-Kogi Zone Command had achieved over N22 million in revenue, saying its officers and men were on course to exceed their revenue target annual.

According to him, "The Command is able to achieve this success due to the improved capability and logistics received from the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Retired) and its management team."

Kadejo further reaffirmed that the federal government's policy on border closure is still in effect at Banana in Niger State, pointing out that everything they do is backed by the Customs Management Act and Excise Cap C45 LFN 2004 as amended.

While assuring officers and men of an enhanced welfare program, he noted that the command will continue to fight contraband with renewed vigor and determination.
