NPFL recap: Four away wins on Matchday 1 as favorites struggle

Day one of the Nigeria Premier Football League produced a number of interesting results with two away wins in Group A and Group B.

Eight-time champion Enyimba put on a dominant display in the 2-1 win over Nasarawa United at New Jos Stadium.

Newcomers Bendel Insurance also upset former champions Akwa United 2-0 at Uyo in their first NPFL game in four years.

Enyimba and Bendel Insurance top Group A with Remo Stars, who beat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in Ikenne.

In Group B, holders Abia Warriors, Niger Tornadoes and Rivers United are the early leaders.

Abia Warriors recorded a 2-0 away win over Rangers in the Eastern Derby at Awka City Stadium.

At Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, Niger Tornadoes won 2-0 against hosts Wikki Tourists.

Reigning champions Rivers United secured a 2-1 win over Lobi Stars in Portugal.
