NSCDC arrests two suspects with fake $30,900

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested two suspects for possession of counterfeit US dollars worth $30,900.

Command spokesman CSC Adamu said this during the parade of suspects on Friday at the command headquarters, Dutse, the state capital.

The suspects are, 25 year old Danladi Umar from Tashar Musawa, Zaria LGA Kaduna State and 35 year old Abdurrahman Khalid.

According to him, “the suspects were arrested when One Danladi Umar filed a complaint that an Abdurrahman Khalid deceived and defrauded him by linking him to a Malam who collected the sum of N147,500 for give it a local charm".

He said the latter acknowledged the allegation, but claimed that Danladi met him with fake foreign currency and asked him how to spend it without any hitches, which he told him he knew a Malam Haruna who lives in Nguru, Yobe State. this will help him turn counterfeit foreign currency into real money.

However, the alleged Malam could not be reached for days via his phone, so Danladi suspected foul play and reported the matter to the NSCDC Divisional Office at Sule Tankarkar LGA.

Danladi later confessed that he bought the counterfeit money from a Zakari (now at large) in Marabar Jos, Kaduna State, and purchased the three counterfeit lots of $10,000 at the rate of 75 000N (25,000N per batch).

CSC. Adamu said US$30,900, or about N24 million at the Foreign Investors and Exporters (I&E FX) counter, was recovered from the suspects.

He said the forgery and criminal association case is against Articles 369 and 96 of the constitution and punishable under Articles 329 and 97 of the Jigawa State Penal Code.

The suspects will be brought to court for prosecution once all investigations have been completed.
