Obi appreciates supporters, warns against online parody accounts and identity theft

Labour Party Presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi has once again appreciated his many supporters across the country, saying the journey to save the country will be difficult without them, while informing the public of the various acts of impersonation against him on the Internet.

In a statement signed and made available to journalists in Awka on Tuesday by his special media adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Obi said that of all social media platforms, he does not operate only on Twitter at the moment. He said his Twitter handle remains @PeterObi and his tweets are marked PO.

Obi explained that the disclosure was imperative to prevent generally questionable figures or the opposition from trying to maliciously or criminally exploit the name for other purposes. He enjoined all his followers, and indeed Nigerians, to be wary of any social media account showing his name and photos as not genuinely his.

"OBIdients and the many other supporters of Mr. Obi, and indeed Nigerians in general, should beware of these unauthorized social media accounts, especially on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, which have been opened and are operated in its name

"While I understand the zeal, enthusiasm and passion of those who manage these accounts, I wish to state categorically that I have not created or authorized anyone to create and manage such accounts on my behalf" , the statement read.

"In due course, 'The Obidient Movement' will open more channels of communication through which we can interact with all Obidients, as we march to reclaim our nation and reposition it on the path of progress," he said. he concluded.
