Ogun 2023: Akinlade emerges as PDP deputy gubernatorial candidate, pledges support for Adebutu

Adekunle Akinlade, an Allied People's Movement (APM) gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections in Ogun State, became a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy gubernatorial candidate ahead of the elections next year.

Akinlade, after defecting to the PDP on Friday, was announced as Hon. Ladi Adebutu, who won the PDP primary elections in Ogun State.

While agreeing to run on the same ticket as Adebutu, Akinlade said his decision to join the PDP was for the good of Ogun State.

According to him, the decision was not easy to make, but the sacrifice must be made.

"It may not be the most popular decision to make, but I think it is absolutely necessary. Where we find ourselves today in Ogun State, every sensible native of this state be willing to make sacrifices,” Akinlade said.

The former member of the House of Representatives recalled how Adebutu supported him when he ran in 2019, saying, "We will do everything we can to ensure that this party wins in 2023."< /p>

Akinlade emphasized that “we will work morning, afternoon and night; we will work around the clock. We already did it in less than 90 days, now we have seven months to do it (campaign)."

The Ipokia-born politician rallied support for Adebutu when he said, "I sat down with everyone. I know my role as Deputy Governor. I will stand with you, I will stand with you. your side and I will stand behind you."
