Alumni body warns FG and ASUU of prolonged strike

The St Charles Grammar School Alumni Association, under the auspices of Charleans in Diaspora Incorporation, has urged the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resume talks on the current strike and to allow students to return to schools for their academic activities.

Chairman of Charleans in Diaspora Inc., Yemi Ghazali Ajijolaiya during his address at the Annual Achievement Award for Students and Teachers of St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, organized by Charleans in Diaspora, said the continued idleness of the concerned students constituted a danger to the security of the nation.

The association has recognized select students and teachers at the school who have demonstrated commendable academic excellence and honest work ethic over the past year.

Ajijolaiya expressed concern that FG and university professors were suspending other panel discussions and hibernating, noting that this could force students to channel their energy into negative things.

"My advice to the Federal Government and ASUU is to get back to the table and talk. You can't solve any crisis without talking. Currently, I don't think there is a ongoing discussion and it is not good for the students who are the victims of this crisis.

These young people have a lot of energy and if they do not spend this energy on their education, then they will look for something else to spend this energy on.

Unfortunately, more often than not it's not on the positive side. So my strong advice is that the government and ASUU come back to the roundtable, this needs to be resolved,” he said.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Ajijolaiya said, "The main objective of the annual Charleans in Diaspora award is to motivate every student and teacher in the school to work hard and to achieve the main teaching and learning objectives.. The awards are therefore designed to recognize various attributes of students and teachers, such as good attitudes, honest work ethic, humanity, determination, l love of learning and encourage a sense of accomplishment.

"We want to create an environment that allows students and teachers to recognize their achievements and serves as a catalyst for other students to perform at their best and contribute to the overall performance of the school. school.

"The importance of a quality education cannot be overstated, as it plays a vital role in building a bright future for our children. St. Charles Grammar School Alumni at home and in the Diaspora are therefore committed to partnering with the school leadership and Osun State to provide quality education, providing our students and teachers with an atmosphere where teachers can teach, and students can learn exciting educational things every day.

"Charleans in Diaspora Inc.'s activities in the school go beyond the annual cash award to deserving students and teachers. Our approach is a holistic approach to teaching and learning. learning in schools, including supporting infrastructure, rewarding performance, promoting sport and helping indigent students, among others. We have recently completed phase 1 of the refurbishment of Afolalu and Omoworare classroom blocks , while preparations for the second phase are underway.

"We sponsored an inter-school table tennis competition between all secondary schools in 4 local government areas (Irepodun, Orolu, Osogbo and Olorunda) of Osun State, which saw over 100 participants in the finals held here at the school.Others include providing extra-mural tuition for SSS3 students in preparation for the West African School Certificate and NECO exams, assisting needy students in paying WASC and JAMB exam fees, supporting selected alumni of the school at universities etc. our belief that giving back to the school that has shaped our lives is a responsibility that must be assumed without any distractions, so we are proud to be part of this great institution and we wanted to give something back to it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Osun State Education Commissioner Folorunso Oladoyin said the cash reward event will help students channel their efforts into productive causes and to adopt the diligence, discipline, and other virtues for which the state is known.
