Only candidate guber PRP appeared for drug test in Katsina – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said that only one 2023 candidate for the 2023 elections had come forward for an integrity test in Katsina.

NDLEA State Commander, Muhammed Bashir made the revelation to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

Bashir said that only the People's Redemption Party (PRP) government standard bearer Imran Jino came to the agency for the test and was tested for free.

The official urged politicians vying for various political positions in Katsina to come and take the test.

The NDLEA Commander added that this would encourage their followers to avoid drug abuse.

"Politicians should not encourage those who use drugs in their campaign environment, and we always advise them to appear for integrity tests.

"I'm glad one of the gubernatorial candidates did this; others should follow suit."

Bashir noted that the election campaign ahead of the 2023 general election can be free, fair and peaceful if politicians warn their supporters against serious abuses.

"As a politician, you don't need to give drugs to your supporters so they can support you and you don't need to be violent."

The NDLEA Commander described drug addiction as the mother of all crimes and that giving illicit substances to young people would destroy them.
