Osinachi, Rico Swavey, Ada Ameh, other celebrities we lost in 2022

Despite the strides made by the entertainment industry in Nigeria, there have been solemn moments that have left fans in mourning.

They say death is a necessary end. Perhaps that's why some of the deaths recorded in the entertainment scene run deep.

Here are the celebrities we said goodbye to in 2022.

Osinachi Nwachukwu

In April, famed gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu passed away. The singer, who rose to prominence with the hit "Ekwueme", which she sang alongside Prospa Ochimana, died in a hospital in Abuja.

The singer, who died of complications from domestic violence, was the lead singer of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

His latest song, Ikem (God of Power), was released in November 2021.

Gbenga Richards

One of the pioneers of Nollywood, actor Gbenga Richards died in May after battling acute diabetes and high blood pressure.

Richards' first appearance as an actor was representing Nigeria with Hubert Ogunde at the second World Black and African Festival of African Culture (FESTAC) in 1977.

Ada Ameh

Famous Nollywood actress, comedian, producer and television personality, Ada Ameh, died in a hospital in Delta State in July.

Actors Guild of Nigeria National President Emeka Rollas has confirmed the unfortunate incident to PREMIUM TIMES.

She was buried in August in her hometown of Benue State amid tributes.

Biyi Bandelé

In August, Nigerian novelist and director Biyi Bandele died suddenly at the age of 54.

Temi, the deceased's daughter, said on behalf of the family, described him as "a prodigiously talented writer and filmmaker, as well as a loyal friend and beloved father".

He died before the premiere of his directorial work, "Elesin Oba: The King's Horseman".

Rico Swavey

Another tragic death to hit the entertainment industry in 2022 is that of ex-Big Brother Naija star Patrick Fakoya, known as Rico Swavey.

Swavey, who died in October, was involved in a horrific car accident that left him hospitalized and in critical condition.

Sammie Okposo

Famous gospel singer Sammie Okposo died suddenly on November 25.

The singer was known for his Sammie Okposo Praise Party (SOPP) live concert. He organized the last edition in November, a few days before his sudden disappearance.

His hit song, “Welu Welu”, gained great local and international popularity and received widespread airplay.
