Qatar 2022: Messi once again leads Argentina to World Cup final

Lionel Messi scored a goal and provided an assist as Argentina qualified for the 2022 World Cup final with a 3-0 victory against an underperforming Croatia side at the stadium on Tuesday. Lusail.

Messi set the tone for Argentina with a 34th-minute penalty kick after Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković was found guilty of fouling Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez himself was on hand to double Argentina's lead five minutes after forcing his way through the Croatian defense and was further assisted after a misstep by Borna Sosa, as he made it 2-0.

Despite a two-goal lead early in the first half, Argentina were not ready to let go.

A moment of brilliance from Messi saw him once again blast past the Croatian defenders before sending a pass to Alvarez who scored his second goal of the night and effectively sealed the final ticket to Argentina.

While this is the sixth time Argentina have reached the final, it is the second time Messi has led the South American side so far after doing the same in 2014.

Messi and his Argentine teammates will find out on Wednesday who will be their last opponents between France and Morocco who will face each other in the second semi-final.

Naturally, Argentina and Croatia were both counting on veteran legends Messi and Luka Modric to play their final tournaments.

The Croats dominated the start of the procedure, but without real chances.

Argentina's moment came in the 34th minute when they won a penalty which was deftly converted by Messi.

Before the Croatians could adjust to one less goal, they were hit with the second by Alvarez.

Although some expected Modric and his teammates to take inspiration from the Netherlands and make a comeback, that never happened as Argentina added a third in the 69th minute.< /p>

Having lost their opener to Saudi Arabia but coming back to reach the final, Argentina could well become the second team after Spain to lose their World Cup opener and win the first prize.
