Paul O'Grady has completed his 14-year stint on Radio 2 and confirmed it was because that he was unhappy to share his Sunday afternoon slot.

O'Grady has hosted his current show for 13 years, but a recent schedule change saw Rob Beckett take over for two three-months a year.

Ahead of his last show, O'Grady cited change as the reason he was going.

Also leaving the station is its producer Malcolm Prince, whom he has jokingly insulted on every show.

Talking to his colleague who has been suffering since long into their 546th and final program, O'Grady, 67, said the show had been one of the "longest jobs I've ever had", before addressing his listeners for their saying "it wouldn't have been the same" without them.

Recalling that his initial job for Radio 2 had been as an occasional presenter 14 years ago years before he got his current show in 2009, he said, "I only came to do a few hours for Elaine Paige and look what happened. .

His last show featured many of his popular segments, including a Hawaiian-style cocktail recipe and a tribute to recently deceased listeners' pets.

After playing his latest song, Friends by Bette Midler, he signed, "So take care, stay safe and healthy. Ya-ra everyone."

O'Grady and Beckett had swapped every 13 weeks in the slot, after a reshuffling of the station's schedule .< /p>
