Pipeline Watch: Tompolo Allocates 40% to Women, Meets N'Delta Monarchs

To launch his new pipeline monitoring contract, the leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), High Chief of Government Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo, met with traditional leaders from the Niger Delta, largely of Ijaw descent from Delta, Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa and Rivers States.

The meeting, which was also attended by other stakeholders, was held in Oporoza, the ancestral seat of the Gbaramatu Kingdom in the South West Warri Local Government Area of ​​Delta State, last Thursday.

The meeting aligns with Tompolo's ongoing efforts to find a lasting solution to the ongoing threat of crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and preventing environmental pollution in the region.

The Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had signed a 4 billion naira contract with Tompolo to help the country combat illegal bunkering, illegal refining of crude oil and other forms of theft related to oil and gas in the Niger Delta.

Following the contractual agreement, Tompolo welcomed thousands of its fans on solidarity visits and began recruiting young people, including men and women from various communities in Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Ondo and other Niger Delta states that will assist with the project.

The surveillance men who will be recruited, we gathered, will be paid their salaries directly and will also contribute to the achievement of the objectives set.

Tompolo was awarded a similar contract under the administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan, where it reportedly performed very well with rising crude oil production.

Speaking to reporters, Tompolo claimed that all Niger Deltans will be trained, with women occupying 40% and men 60% of the jobs, while urging those aggrieved to sheathe their swords.

“My plan for the Niger Delta is to train everyone. You know, people who do illegal bunkering usually go through the fire (sic) which even destroys our environment more than they benefit from it .

"So we are now with everyone, women, our fathers, our wives, our children to see that we are following the right path. We have no other country to call our own.

"It's our country. Nigeria belongs to us and that's the reason why we don't want to be second class citizens because we produce the oil that feeds everyone in this country," a- he said.

The pipeline safety monitoring contract, according to Tompolo, had started since September 4.
