The victims had spent 50 days in captivity before being rescued on Monday.

In a statement to PREMIUM TIMES, command spokesman Mohammed Shehu said the six suspects were arrested for "involvement in a criminal conspiracy, intimidation and extortion".

“The sum of 700,000 naira has been recovered. The money was part of the levies they collected from some villages in the Anka local government area,” Mr. Shehu said.

Mr. Shehu said an arms trafficker, who specializes in supplying weapons and ammunition to terrorists operating in the state, was also arrested.

"The suspect is a notorious arms dealer who specializes in transporting weapons and ammunition to a notorious bandit known as Dawa.
