Police commission demands immediate investigation into shooting and murder of Lagos lawyer

The Police Services Commission (PSC) has called on police leaders to immediately initiate an investigation into the shooting and murder of a Lagos lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, by a police officer.

Ikechukwu Ani, PSC's Head of Press and Public Relations, made the call in a statement Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr. Ani called the incident irresponsible and savage and urged the Force leadership to report the outcome of the investigation to the commission for review and further disciplinary action.

He called on the Nigerian Police to put in place a tremendous weapons development program for their men.

The CPS spokesman said the cases of unprovoked shootings and killings of innocent Nigerians were becoming worrying.

He said that the police by their creation and constitutional mandate were supposed to protect and save lives and not shoot and kill innocent Nigerians.

“The Acting Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, on behalf of management and staff, sympathizes with the family of the deceased,” he said.

Mr. Raheem was reportedly shot dead by a police officer attached to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos State on December 25.
