The direction of the polytechnic school visits the family of a student killed

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State has paid a condolence visit to the family of the institution's slain student, Happiness Odeh.

The rector of the institution, Adeoye Odedeji, alongside other members of senior management, visited the relatives of the deceased in the capital, Abeokuta.

Ms. Odeh, who won the institution's beauty pageant on August 3, was reportedly abducted on her way to Ipara, Ode Remo, on August 9.

Ms. Odeh's body was reportedly found in the bush on the road along Iperu Remo on Thursday.

During the visit, Mr. Odedeji lamented the horrific murder of the 22-year-old student, linking this unfortunate development to growing insecurity across the country.

The rector said: "When I received the shocking news as a teacher, we have the responsibility covered by our profession. Every teacher is a local parent, which means she is my daughter by the fact that she was a student of MAPOLY.

“This is a reflection of the general insecurity in Nigeria and there is an urgent need for all of us to cooperate with the government, especially law enforcement officers, to ensure that this type of event be stopped because when we start losing students in this way, it means we are destroying the future of Nigeria."

Warning

Mr. Odedeji called on students to avoid riding motorbikes at night.

"We also liaised with the security agencies, their regular surveillance from Iyana Oloke to Alagada and this regular movement of security guards along this road has been very helpful and that is the reason for which we rarely hear about issues like this."

The rector also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.
