Postponement of subsidy cuts disappointing, says Magnus Abe

The Social Democratic Party's Rivers State gubernatorial candidate, Senator Magnus Abe, has criticized the federal government's decision to move the fuel subsidy phase-out date.

It was then that he revealed that he would withdraw the petition he had filed with the electoral tribunal challenging the election results.

Abe said so while addressing SDP loyalists at his campaign office in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Abe said: "I was at the center of this controversy when the whole subsidy thing exploded under the Goodluck Jonathan government at the time.

"And one of the main promises he made to Nigerians and why we followed Buhari is that this problem will be solved.

"It's unfortunate that now, towards the end of the administration, everyone has realized that this country can no longer afford to pay phantom subsidies for things that don't bring no benefit to the Nigerian people and Nigerians to come.

"I was very pleased when I saw the President take steps to conclude this very controversial deal before the end of his administration by introducing an improvement in the salary of civil servants as part of the process removal of fuel subsidy.

"I was shocked, however, when I read somewhere that the decision to remove the fuel subsidy has now been postponed.

"And honestly, I don't think it's in the interests of the Nigerian people for us to continue to play with this case, especially since we have already taken steps to bring it to fruition. to a legitimate conclusion. ”

On withdrawing his petition against Governor-elect Siminialayi Fubura, Abe explained that although the decision was personal, it was in the interests of the state.

"Having made a very clear review of the situation in the state and what is going on there, I have decided, in consultation with the party at the national level and at the State, that I, Senator Magnus Abe, will withdraw my petition to the Election Claims Tribunal; first, in the interest of those who have suffered and worked so much to support our cause; and above all in the interest of our State. that we begin to reduce the bickering and confusion in the state so that we all have the opportunity to be able to move on with our lives,” he said.
