Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Daughter Lilibet Is Technically a Princess

As the granddaughter of King Charles III, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet is now considered a princess following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, thanks to an established rule over 100 years ago.

On June 4, 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their daughter at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The toddler is named after his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and Harry's late mother, Princess Diana. The couple had already left the royal family by then, meaning Lili never experienced the dramatic events they detailed in their Netflix documentary, 'Harry & Meghan', and she spent her life, so far, in Montecito, Calif.

Even though Lili was not given a royal title at birth (just like her brother, Archie), she is technically now a princess based on the current rules, issued by King George V in 1917. These rules state that the title of Prince or Princess devolves upon the Sovereign's sons and daughters, the grandchildren born of the Sovereign's sons, and the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. Since Lili is a granddaughter of the sovereign, that makes her a princess. Archie is also now considered a prince.
