Red alert: don't be afraid of scarlet lips

Recently I wrote about how, as a hardcore girl with matte lips, I am now veering towards gloss. Here is the second part of the brilliant journey. I have now discovered how much adding a pop of red to the shiny stuff wakes up your skin. Yes, I know red can be quite intimidating without having any shimmer in the mix, but give it a try – even if that's just a hint. The fearless can add a bold look, but a red lip gloss has just as much impact on a daytime face paired with an understated outfit. When you see the magical way it illuminates your skin, you will be sold.

I can't live without it… A hardworking yet affordable beauty range

In 2018, when Colette Laxton and Mark Curry launched The Inkey List, I was super excited about the duo's plans to transform the beauty landscape. It was undoubtedly ambitious (the less diplomatic would say "bolshie"), but four years later, their forward-thinking approach to skincare has absolutely worked. Their audience - admittedly largely GenZ, but it actually suits everyone - has fallen in love with their effective, high-quality formulations at an accessible price. Add to that the brand's ethos of helping people make the right skincare decisions, and you have a winning formula. Between their digital experts – available 24/7, the many Q&As and a short questionnaire you complete for your personalized skincare recipe – their desire to meet everyone's skincare needs skin looks authentic. (The last thing you want when your skin is going crazy is a brand that makes you feel worse.) Their new line, Supersolutions, is another step in democratizing skincare. Created in collaboration with a host of dermatologists, it offers products that address everything from dry, rough skin and redness to excess oil and scarring. It's excellent, and compared to its counterparts, more affordable - which, given the state of the economy, is a very good thing indeed. The Inkey List Supersolutions range, from £15.99, boots.com

On my radarSkincare night and day, plus charity candles
