Committee of Representatives uncovers jumbo salary of 2.4m naira per month at Pencom

Chief Executive of the Pensions Commission, A'isha Umar, has denied the allegation that the commission pays staff N2.4 million per month.

The DG, who appeared before the House of Representatives Finance Committee on Thursday, said that although the committee pays high salaries, no one earns 1 million naira a month.

Legislators had discovered that the commission was budgeting N12 billion for 500 employees in one year.

Aminu Suleiman, a member of the Kano State Committee, said that with a budget of N12 billion for 500 employees, this means that on average, an employee goes home with N24 million per year.

“Average 2.4 million naira per month. Are you telling me that the most junior staff at Pencom earn up to 2.4 million naira per month?” he said.< /p>

In response, the DG claimed that the N12 billion was for other expenses, including training.

“We need to train staff. We need to avoid what is called regulatory capture. This means that our staff will compromise. than drinking water. We don't compromise because our staff are well paid. We have to earn more than the entity we regulate,” she said.

The lawmakers were not satisfied with the explanation, so the committee decided that the details of the commission's salaries should be submitted to the committee within a week.
