Rivers United and Plateau United to face Libyan clubs in CAF Confederation Cup

Rivers United and Plateau United, the two remaining Nigerian clubs on the continent, were drawn against two Libyan clubs in the final rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage qualifiers.

CAF officials conducted the draws at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

The draws saw 16 teams who had progressed from the second preliminary rounds of the Confederation Cup and another 16 teams who failed to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League CAF, a category into which Rivers United and Plateau United have fallen.< /p>

After losing to North African clubs at the weekend, Plateau and Rivers United will face another group of North African clubs for a chance to play in the group stage.

Rivers United, who were beaten 7-2 on aggregate by Wydad Athletics Casablanca, will face Libya's El Nasr Benghazi in a two-legged encounter after beating AS Kigali by a single goal to advance to the next step to have a chance in the Confederation Cup group stage after a decade of absence.

Meanwhile, Plateau United, who were ousted by Esperance Tunis in the Champions League preliminary round on the away goals rule, will face another Libyan team, Al Alkber, who have progressed with a 3-2 victory over Azam FC of Tanzania.

Both clubs will kick off with the first leg to be played on Wednesday 2 November while the return leg will be played on Wednesday 9 November.
