Sexy Beast streaming prequel filmed at Liverpool studios

A streaming service has become the first long-term tenant of the pop-up studios in Liverpool, filming its new drama, Sexy Beast.

Paramount+ has hired The Depot for seven months to film the prequel to the 2000 Ray Winstone film of the same name.

Two 20,000 square foot (1,850 m²) studios, dubbed Hollywood of the North, opened in October last year.

< p class="ssrcss -1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">Since then, only TV commercials have been shot on the Edge Lane site.

Producers will also film in several locations around the city doubling as 1990s East London, including St Nicholas Church Gardens and Tower Gardens , Rumford Street and Anfield, the Local Democracy Information Service said.

'Film city'

Paramount+'s eight-part series Sexy Beast follows the lives of petty thieves who dabble in the criminal underworld of London and the cast includes James McArdle who starred in BBC Two's Life After Life.
