Once famous for making watches and cables, the town of Prescot near Liverpool is hosting a Shakespearean reinvention enne.

Northern England now has a rival for London's Globe Theatre, celebrating Prescot's links with Shakespeare.

< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">A £38 million replica of the Royal Cockpit Theater is opening on Friday.

The auditorium timber frame captures the look and feel of a venue that was originally located at the current location of 10 Downing Street.

Behind there is a small red plaque which reveals that this was the site of what is claimed to be the only inner Eli, assholes purpose built and freestanding zabethan playhouse outside London.

It was built on the edge of land owned by the Earls of Derby, a family aristocratic with a long history of ties to the theatre.
