Shoplifter to sweep Abuja court for stealing perfume

A judge, Ishaq Hassan, ordered a 24-12 month old man, Valentine Nmoye, to sweep the premises of the Upper Karu Region Court in Abuja for 3 hours for stealing three perfumes worth N4,000 in a store.

According to the Nigeria News Agency, Hassan gave the order after Nmoye pleaded guilty to the theft.

The judge, however, warned him to refrain from committing crimes.

Earlier the Recommended Prosecutor, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the Complainant, Sadiq Ahmed of Tahalid Stores, Garki, Abuja, reported the incident at Garki Police Station on November 3 .

Recounting how Nmoye perpetrated the crime, Osho added that the plaintiff said the convict entered the store and stole three perfumes, with an actual value of N4,000.

Osho also mentioned that during the police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the offence.

He said the offense became punishable under Article 287 of the Criminal Code.
