Six months before municipal elections, Governor of Ondo orders LG presidents and councilors to leave

Ondo State Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered elected local government officials in the state to leave their offices.

The directive comes as the officials' terms expired on Wednesday.

“The constitutional tenure of the elected local government chairpersons and councilors in Ondo State ends today, August 30, 2023,” acting governor spokesman Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson said on Wednesday. .

“This implies that all presidents and councilors would leave their respective offices accordingly and cede the administration of local governments.

"In accordance with the above and in order to avoid any vacuum, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration of Ten eight (18) state local governments to take over local government administration immediately, pending further direction from the state government. "
