Sod the add-ons: Spurs tell Man Utd to pay £100m in one upfront payment for Harry Kane

Tottenham will 'consider' selling Manchester United target Harry Kane for £100m 'upfront', report claims.

Kane will enter the final year of his contract this summer, sparking rumors of a move elsewhere.

United are looking for a new striker and some reports suggest Kane will be their number one contract in the summer transfer window.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Benfica's Goncalo Ramos are also said to be on Erik ten Hag's wish list.

Much has been made of Kane's lack of career trophies - he has none - and whether or not he would be willing to leave Tottenham to pursue silverware.

Bayern Munich are linked with the England captain, but given they are closing in on Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record, it's hard to imagine Kane going abroad.

A move to Old Trafford makes sense for Kane on so many levels. United have a much better chance of winning trophies than Tottenham and the 29-year-old could break Shearer's record.

It will be an interesting summer transfer window, to say the least.

In 2021, Spurs rejected a huge offer worth an initial £75million - including add-ons - from Manchester City for their talisman.

Kane had a three-year contract at the time and Spurs were looking for around £150m.

Given his contractual situation, you'd probably expect a fee in the region of £75m to get a deal done, but that's not the case.

Previous reports have suggested the asking price for North Londoners was £100million, and now The Times says it wants that fee paid in one go.

When a player pays a fee in this region, there are usually a lot of add-ons and clauses included, so it's quite surprising.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator, which United are said to be aware of as they prepare to pursue Kane at the end of 2022-23.

£100m upfront would see Levy 'consider' selling Kane - who is on the Red Devils' 'shortlist of attacking targets'.

Spurs 'obviously don't want to sell the striker to a domestic rival' and United 'believe it will take a £100m offer' to bring the club's hierarchy to the table.

Levy is clearly trying to dissuade potential suitors, and it is added that United 'may be discouraged' by his demands.

Shearer's aforementioned record has boosted confidence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that the 29-year-old will look to stay at the club beyond this summer.

Kane will be in action for England later this month when they take on Italy and Ukraine in their first Euro 2024 qualifiers.
