The Sokoto Electoral Tribunal begins sitting today

Panel 2 of the National Assembly and Sokoto State Assembly Electoral Petitions Tribunal will hold its inaugural session today, Monday, according to a notice.

Court Secretary Sunday Martins issued the notice and said the inaugural session is scheduled for Court 6, High Court Complex, Sokoto.

Expected at the inaugural session are the State Attorney General and the Commissioner of Justice; the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission; director of the Department of State Services, Commissioner of Police; as well as the state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

At last count, the court received 17 petitions regarding the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, including one gubernatorial and 16 petitions to the House of Assembly, from various candidates aggrieved from the APC and the PDP.< /p>

While the APC filed petitions for 10 House of Assembly seats in the constituencies of Shagari, Sokoto North, Tureta, Bodinga North, Tambuwal East, Gada, Silame, Goronyo, Isa and Tambuwal West, the PDP filed a petition for the governorship and six for the Assembly seats in the constituencies of Sokoto South II, Sabon Birni North, Sabon Birni South, Binji, Kebbe and Kware.
