Some Nigerians on social media on Monday expressed their displeasure over the graduation of Rivers State Governor's first son, Nyesom Wike, from a university in the UK amid the persistent strike by the University Academic Staff Union.

The PUNCH reports that academic activities at public universities in Nigeria have been halted for almost 147 days.

The ASUU had announced on February 14, 2022 the start of industrial action following the government's failure to meet some of the union's persistent demands.

But Nyesom Wike's first son, who also happens to be a former Minister of State for Education under Goodluck Jonathan's administration, graduated with an upper second class law degree from the University of Exeter, UK.< /p>

Commenting on the development on social media, Facebook user Remi Mowo said, “Thinking injuries? They refused to develop the education sector in Nigeria and why? Their wards study abroad. The ASUU can be on strike forever. They don't care. Wike was also a former Minister of Education. »

Another Facebook user, Chika Okwuolisa, said: "Their sons and daughters will continue to graduate overseas while Nigerian students haven't seen the four walls of their classrooms since more than six months due to the strike. How base and insensitive can we become in this country?"

Similarly, another Facebook user, Chris Ughanze, said, "Congratulations to the graduating son. However, the ASUU strike has entered five months and some faculty and students are campaigning for the All Progressives Congress /Peoples Democratic Party remains in power. They have destroyed our education, our health system and our economy and have treasures stashed abroad where their own children and whims are the beneficiaries of the spoils.

“There is a limit to which one can endure the cruelty and disservice of leaders enthroned to serve.

The PUNCH reports that ASUU went on strike in 2013 during Wike's tenure as minister responsible for the Ministry of Education.
