World T20 World Cup qualification: Jersey batters squander chances against Uganda

Ben Ward
Qualif. World B for the ICC T20 World Cup, Queens Sports Club, BulawayoUganda 110 all out (20 overs): Ssesazi 30; Quarter 3-16Jersey 105-9 (20 overs): Jenner 27*; Miyagi 2-17Uganda win by five pointsMatch Scorecard one as the Jersey bowlers and field made them struggle in Bulawayo.

Ben Ward took 3-16 as Uganda were limited to just 110.

But the Jersey batters continually gave away cheap wickets as they could only make 105-9 in response.

Jersey will face Singapore on Sunday to decide seventh place in the eight-team tournament - the only team they beat after losses to the United States and Zimbabwe in the group.

Uganda - which Jersey has beat over 50 overs in Kampala last month - made a strong, if slow, start as flyhalf Simon Ssesazi and Ronak Patel went 46 for the opening wicket.

Ssesazi was beaten by Ward for 30 while Patel was caught by Harrison Carlyon off the bowling of Rhys Palmer for 21 in the next as they were down to 49-2.

Jersey bowlers then took five wickets for just five runs as Uganda went from 60 -2 at 65-7 in the 15th over as Ward trapped Dinesh Nakrani lbw for nine and launched Frank Akankwasa for a first-ball duck - one of three Ugandan players who failed to score.

Ugandan captain Kenneth Waiswa was brilliantly exhausted for 17 late in the 18th before Juma Miyaji pitted a late resistance with 26 from 20 balls as Uganda were all out of the final ball of their 20 overs when last man Henry Ssenyondo was exhausted.
