Taraba PDP crisis escalates as Bakari files contempt action against Bawa

The crisis rocking the Taraba State branch of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) took another twist on Thursday, as lawyers for the party's interim chairman, led by John Okezie Esq, filed a contempt action against ousted chairman Abubakar Bawa.

Judge Nuhu Adi of the State High Court sitting in Jalingo on Monday quashed Mr. Bawa's appointment as PDP President and reinstated Bakari as the bona fide interim President.

This follows an earlier case struck out by Bala Usman of the Federal High Court Jalingo Division, for lack of jurisdiction.

Okezie said the sacked PDP chairman was in contempt of court during the State Commissioners swearing-in ceremony at Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, where he (Bawa) sat in the seat reserved for the party chairman in violation of the court ruling.

“He also said in a video interview that he still remains the state party chairman, describing the Taraba State High Court judgment as a kangaroo judgment.

"We have approached the court for an order authorizing the plaintiffs to serve the Notice of Consequence of Disobeying Court Order (Form 48) and the recorded order of this court in Case No.: TRSJ/62/2023, as well as all other subsequent proceedings in the contempt proceeding against the defendant by substitute means, since he evaded service.

“The Bailiff made several efforts to effect personal service of the Notice of Consequence of Disobeying Court Order (Form 48) on the Respondent at his residential address at Angwa Nana Aisha, Jalingo, Taraba State, but he evaded service,” he said.
