The list, compiled by Big 7 Travel, is based on social media user scores and thoughts from the travel site's editorial team.

At the top of the podium is the Salling Rooftop in the Danish city of Aarhus, a space "to cut the breath" with a rooftop garden and a glass-bottomed walkway that overlooks the city.

Second place goes to The Roof at Hotel Reykjavik Edition in Iceland, which offers "360 degree views of the mountains and the ocean", while the bronze medal goes to the "Swish' bar at the top of the Munch art museum in Oslo. The top-rated venue in the UK is The Culpeper (fifth) rooftop bar in east London, which offers "stunning views of the city from its greenhouse-like exterior".
