Those who fear Atiku will reclaim his mandate have sent Boko Haram to silence him - PDP

The Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, has said that those unsettled by its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar's attempt to win back his mandate are behind the plot to silence him.

PDP called for a thorough investigation into the attempt by Boko Haram members to attack Atiku.

DAILY POST had reported that four suspected Boko Haram members were arrested for plotting to attack Atiku and some sensitive places in Yola, Adamawa State.

Reacting, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba said the party was alarmed by the foiled terrorist attack on Atiku.

A statement from Ologunagba reads in part: "The PDP insists that, based on the confessions of the arrested assailants, the plot bears the hallmarks of a sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku Abubakar, apparently by forces that are destabilized by his attempt to regain his mandate in the Presidential Election Court of Demands (PEPC).

“Our party believes that the intention of the sponsors of this evil plot is to silence our presidential candidate, slaughter innocent Nigerians and sow chaos, confusion and anarchy in the political system.

“The PDP asks, does this foiled attack on Atiku Abubakar and sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa relate to the recent APC threats of chaos and anarchy in the country, whether the PEPC abides by the clear provisions of Article 134 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) with respect to the mandatory and statutory requirements for which a candidate in a presidential election can be declared the winner ???
