Thousands of APC and PDP members defect to ADC in Kogi

ISANLU, the seat of Yagba East Local Council of Kogi State, came to a halt over the weekend as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) hosted thousands of All Progressives Congressmen (APC) ) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP).

ADC leader Mr. Bode Kayode said at a rally at Itedo-Makutu in Isanlu that more than 8,000 new members, who left the APC and PDP to join the ADC , had received membership cards.

Former APC leader in Ere Ward, Yagba West, Nike Akolade, on behalf of other APC defectors, said the mass movement towards ADC in Yagba and other parts de Kogi was motivated by the poor governance of the ruling APC and hunger, coupled with the unprecedented performance of Leke Abejide, member of the House of Representatives for Yagba constituency and leader of the ADC in the region. /p>

Abejide is the only ADC member in the Ninth National Assembly. Akolade took the time to introduce one defector after another, including women and young leaders.

Welcoming the new members, Abejide described the development and participation on the occasion as an unprecedented “lockdown” in Yagbaland for the ADC, an opposition political party.

“We saw that Yagba is blocked for ADC. Yagba turned to a one-party federal constituency, a supposed opposition party,” he said.

Federal lawmakers said the ADC's mass defection was an indication that Yagba's people were happy with his performance in the House; hence their show of love for him and ADC.

While noting that the task of continuing CDA's people-oriented agendas was daunting, Abejide pleaded with old and new members as well as the region's electorate not to limit their votes and support alone in the February 2023 elections, but also voted for the three ADC House of Assembly candidates in Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopamuro under Yagba.

“You will never regret it. What you saw is just the tip of the iceberg. ADC will do more,” he said.

He revealed that he had planned 50,000 ADC membership cards and would be more than happy to increase that number to 100,000 in the coming days.
