Transfer: Messi's Barcelona return confirmed as he agrees one-year contract
Guillem Balague has revealed Lionel Messi's future at Paris Saint-Germain.
While many expect Argentina's World Cup winner to leave the French squad and return to Barcelona, Balague says 'There is an agreement for Messi to renew his contract' in Ligue1.
According to Balague, a Spanish football expert, the 35-year-old has accepted a new contract offer from PSG
This despite interest from Messi's former club Barcelona, where he played for 21 years.
Messi's current contract will expire at the end of the season and it has been widely reported that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will make a decision on his future after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami has also been mooted as an option for him
But Balague said football revealed there was an agreement for the veteran striker to sign a new contract.
"Time to talk about Leo's future. For four months Luis Campos communicated with Jorge Messi," he tweeted.
"There was a key meeting in Doha between Jorge and PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi and they moved forward. There is an agreement for Messi to renew his contract with PSG.
“He has a two year [deal] plus one with PSG. The French club have abandoned the idea of using the 'plus 1' to renew and instead offer a year plus another to be agreed by both parts."
