Court dismisses another NNPP federal lawmaker for certificate forgery

The National Assembly and Kano State Election Petitions Tribunal has sacked Dankawu Idris of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) for forging his secondary school certificate.

Mr. Idris represents Kumbotso Federal Constituency, Kano State, in the House of Representatives.

The chief justice, I. Chima, then declared Mannir Danagundi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the rightful winner of the elections held on February 25.

Delivering judgment on Monday, the judge ruled that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate presented by the respondent, Mr. Idris, was fake.

The court then ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue the APC candidate, Mr. Dan-agundi, with a certificate of return.

Mr. Danagundi challenged Mr. Idris's election in court.

Mr. Idris is the second NNPP MP to be sacked by the Election Petition Tribunal for certificate forgery.

In August, the court annulled the election of the member representing the Tarauni federal constituency, Mukhtar Yarima.

TEXEM Announcement “Tinubu

The election of Mr. Yerima, a member of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), was annulled for falsification of certificate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate challenged Mr. Yerima's election in court for allegedly forging his primary school certificate.

Following Monday's decision, the NNPP lost three seats in the House of Representatives to the opposition APC in Kano.

Two of the seats were due to alleged forgery while the other was due to the candidate's failure to resign from his or her original place of employment 30 days before the election, as required by the election law of 2022.

Although none of the dismissed lawmakers have indicated that they will challenge the court's decision in the next higher court, as required by the electoral law, they are expected to do so.
